🗺️ What can I see and do on the Fleettracker Chart? (Overview)
Learn what the Fleettracker Chart landing page shows, how ship positions and tracks are displayed, and how to use the ship panel, schedule and polling.
When you log in to Fleettracker, the Chart tab is your default landing page. Here you see a world map with the current positions of all ships in your fleet, based on the latest available position data.
Mouse interaction
- When you hover over the chart with your mouse, Fleettracker shows you the coordinates for that position on the map
- This helps you quickly read approximate positions without opening ship details.
Ship panel
On the right-hand side of the chart, you’ll see a small box with dots.
- Click this box to open the ship panel.
- The ship panel offers additional information and tools for your fleet and for a selected ship.
Ship group and search
At the top of the ship panel, you can narrow down the list of ships:
- Ship group dropdown: Select a ship group to filter the list (ship groups are managed under Admin in the Fleettracker settings).
- Search field: Search for a ship by name.
This makes it easier to focus on a subset of your fleet.
Ship details tab
Once you select a ship in the upper part of the ship panel, the Ship tab shows:
- General information about the ship
- Key identifiers and properties (as configured in your Fleettracker environment)
Use this tab for quick reference when working on a specific vessel.
Schedule tab
The Schedule tab shows:
- When the shipping schedule was last updated
- The planned route of the vessel
- The current Captain, Chief Engineer, and Chief Officer
This helps you understand the voyage context of a ship directly from the chart.
Calc. Values tab (depricated)
In the Calc. Values tab, Fleettracker displays:
- The calculated arrival time (ETA) at the next port
- Other calculated values derived from your route and performance data
Use these values to quickly assess if a voyage is on track.
Polling tab
Polling lets you request an updated position for a single ship or for your entire fleet.
Important: Polling generates additional costs. Only use these functions when necessary.
To poll a single ship:
- Select the ship in the ship panel and go to the Polling tab.
- Verify that the Ocean Area is selected automatically.
- If needed, choose the correct Ocean Area from the dropdown.
- Click Poll vessel now!.
- Confirm the pop-up message. If you proceed, the ship’s position will be updated within a few minutes.
To poll the entire fleet:
- Click Poll entire fleet now!.
- Confirm the pop-up message. If you proceed, the positions of all ships will be updated after a few minutes.
Emergency polling
Use Emergency Polling when you need more frequent position updates for a ship within a defined time period (for example, in high-risk areas).
Important: Emergency polling also causes additional costs.
- In the Emergency poll section, choose the polling interval (how often the ship should be polled).
- Choose how long the emergency polling should last.
- Click Start now! and confirm the pop-up.
- Fleettracker will now poll the ship at the chosen interval for the selected duration.
- You can see the planned polling intervals and updated positions on the chart.
- To stop emergency polling early, click Cancel emergency poll and confirm in the pop-up.
Ships and tracks
- Ship icons: All ships in your fleet are shown in yellow on the chart.
- Selecting a ship: When you click a ship, it is highlighted in red, and the track lines for that ship appear:
- Blue line: The past track of the ship, based on past position data.
- Green line: A temporary “airline” (straight line) between ports. This is shown briefly and then turns red.
- Red line: The calculated future track for the next port(s) based on the current schedule and calculations.
This combination of colors lets you see where the ship has been, where it is now, and where it is expected to go next.
